Mini MTX Articles

the Queers, Mr. T Experience and the Smugglers

Taken from Orbit Magazine

It's like a giant Lookout field day. There'll be lots of kids doing stupid dances, more Moon Ska patches then you can shake a stick at, and of course, the occasional political rant. Bon Appetit.

Mr. T Experience, Groovie Ghoulies, and Pansy Division

Taken from a free S.F. paper

Have yourself a very peppy Friday evening with three of Lookout Records' flagship bands. MTX Starship brings you the crush of love. Groovie Ghoulies makes the kids hyper-active with candy handouts and trashy garage rockers about anything Halloween. Pansy Division tell you about men who love men and men who love them, set to the strains of punky pop.

The Mr. T Experience

By Karen Man

"For love is sadness. Love is madness..." love is Dr. Frank and the Mr. T Experience.

The veteran East Bay band the Mr. T Experience creates a punk-pop repertoire of melodious love songs that can make a person shake off her brooding melancholy and do a little dance step or two. Despite the cynicism and sadness in the songs, there is something catchy with the music of MTX that can get you to sing along with lyrics such as "la la la la love is dead". The frequent wondering whether love "will last forever" or blatantly stating that it's just dead, makes Dr. Frank and Company modern day romantic poets who happen to also be punk musicians. Of course, they are also a group of cute guys who make good music.

The paragraph below is taken from the same place, but it's a separate article.

East Bay punk stalwarts Mr. T Experience keep on keepin' on. They may yet become the next Green Day. True, the window of opportunity seems to be closing, but the Mr. T's keep on cranking out catchy and bitter songs about love and relationships just for you.

I Pity the Fool

Taken from the SF Bay Guardian

The Mr. T Experience, formed in 1986, has been one of the Bay Area's Most Likely to Succeed punk-pop bands for a long, long time. The frolicsome lyrics about girls, girlfriends, and relationships with girls that singer Dr. Frank spouts out over bouncy, choppy, fuzzed-up guitars and an airtight rhythm section are teen-dreamy enough to make multiplatinum records. So why are Green Day and Rancid the only punks raking in all the cash? At the Great American Music Hall tonight, Lookout! Records welcomes home their darlings as they wrap up an extensive North American tour. The Hi-Fives, another Cute Band Alert band, bring their Merseybeat-on-meth to the party. Tell your mom you're staying out late, throw your bra onstage, and give the Mr. T Experience the props they've been waiting for. The Odd Numbers open.
