I first met Frank at a MTX show. I asked him to buy me beer. He did, and
we sat with our beer and started talking - we've gotten along great ever
since. I've listened to MTX for nigh on 10 years now, and they have never let
me down. When you are a big fan of MTX and then all of a sudden you're in
Frank's living room practicing backup vocals, well, I've never done cocaine,
but it seems like it would be as exciting.
Strangely, I don't listen to punk rock much at all - Jets to Brazil and
Built to Spill, perhaps, but my DRI and Minor Threat days are long over.
Lately I've been split into two completely different camps: Country/Folk
Songwriters and Underground S.F. Hip Hop DJs. I still like Jazz and
Classical, etc. etc. Basically whatever's not on the radio, with the
exception of Sinatra, of course.
I have a day job at a small record store that I love, which is why I may
not get to stay with the band for too long. I'm also involved in playing bass
for local theatre companies' musical productions and playing upright bass
with a DJ friend of mine. What's more, I occasionally do shows playing
country covers and an array of other songs I've written. Though I have been
in other bands in the past, this is by far the best one I've been a part of.
What more can I say? I have a cat and I live alone. I met John Prine and
Pharaoh Sanders in the same month last year. I cook for myself and enjoy
scotch and gin. And though this may make me drastically unpopular among
certain MTX fans, I ruefully hated the movie Magnolia.
I realize I have sizable shoes to fill, and though I am not as cute as
Joel, I should suffice as a servicable replacement. Some people think I'm a
nice fella, too.
