This was the first show I got to see on the Feb.-March tour, so I was even more excited than usual. I was supposed to pick up my friend Ian at 3:30, but I got to his house insanely early (around 12:30). Since I had a lot of time I just wandered around getting myself even more keyed up for MTX. Finally he got home and shortly after we left for the club. It was an hour drive and I ended up getting us a little lost, bit nothing too bad. When we got to the club, people were already beginning to line up outside. I went to look through the window of the front dorr and check if it was locked. As I did this the girls in the front of the line started telling me that they were getting in first, and that I'd better not try to cut in line. Uh-huh.
We walked around to the back of the club where we found MTX orting merch. I started helping fold shirts and stuff while MTX were setting up to soundcheck. They played "so Long, Sucker," "Don't Go Breakin' My Heart," and "I Can't Forget You." The last one is a Revenge... reject that never got recorded, but it's really quite awesome.
Ian and I helped set up the merch table and basically just sat around until the doors opened. I had never heard of either opening band, and even now I don't remember their names. Not that I'm missing out, neither one of them were very good. One had a song called, "Stay True to Your Roots," which went, "Stay true to your roots, and don't sell out." Pretty creative, eh?
Shortly before MTX played, this guy came and asked the four of us sitting at the merch table (Joel, Paige, Ian, and I) for our autographs. At first he was just talking to Ian and I, and we told him, "No, you don't want our autographs," etc. He told us that "It's not punk rock to refuse to sign autographs." So Ian and I started talking about what rock stars we are and how we're above the fans. It was really funny. After a little bit we conceded and signed autographs for him, with a little proding from Joel and Paige. I wrote "Don't sell out," (in honor of the song) and Ian wrote, "stay punk," to which the guy replied, "Don't worry, I will!"
Next MTX were up. It was really crowded, but I managed to make it right up front. MTX played really well as always. I had an earache which kind of sucked, but it was still great. At one point during the set, Frank was talking about being nervous about the show and said, "It's kind of like the first time I got undressed in front of a woman, except this time they didn't kick me off the bus."
Afterwards, the guy who had gotten my autograph was talking to Jym and I walked over. The guy said to Jym, "This is my good friend Christie." I was laughing and Jym said, "No it's not! I know her! I know her better than my own sister! Well, not quite, but I know her really well." It was quite amusing. Then I went back to the merch table and sat with Paige and Ian.
We hung out with MTX for a while after the show and I discovered that Joel actually likes the Spice Girls! Yikes! He then started singing Spice Girls songs which was even scarier. A little bit later Ian and I decided to go, since he had school the next day and we both had to get up early. We said our goodbyes to MTX and were on our merry way.
