Detroit, MI

This was one of my favorite shows! (Yeah, I tend to say that a lot, but this time I really mean it! At least until the next time I see MTX.) It was at the same place as the first MTX show I ever went to, so it brought back a lot of memories (of what a dork I am). The club was all rearranged since the last time I had been there, and they got a really nice (and loud) new sound system. While MTX were soundchecking, you could see the garbage bags shaking! It was really cool (except when they were soundchecking the drums, ouch!).

During the soundcheck, MTX attempted to play "You're the Only One." They had a little trouble remembering it, but it still sounded great. Before then I had never heard them play it. They played it during their regular set too, and it's become a regular since then.

Shortly before the doors were opening, Paige and the Teen Idols went to go eat dinner. This meant that I got to sell stuff!! Woohoo! The doors opened, and people totally flooded the merch table. It was great! I saw a bunch of people I knew too, so that was neat. It was a little hard to try and talk to people and sell stuff at the same time though. A little bit later Paige came back and I had to give up my position.

The opening band was called the Outsiders. I had never heard them before, but I was already rather biased against them. Their t-shirt girl was this girl that I was sort of ememies with in 9th grade. It's sort of a long and stupid story though, so I won't bore you with it. I honestly don't remember a thing about them now, so they couldn't've been too great.

The Teen Idols started playing, and a song or two into my set I realized that my parents were there. (This time I knew they were coming though, not like the surprise visit from my mom at the Chicago '96 show. I wasn't embarrassed either, since my mom was able to keep herself from telling Frank how great I think he is.) It was funny, before they got there, Jym was putting beer in my hand and stuff so that they'd freak out when they came in. Just what I need!

In between sets, my dad met Joel and Frank (my mom had already met both of them). Joel actually talked to them for quite a while, until it was time for them to play.

I went and stood on Frank's side of the stage because it was really crowded. During the first or second song, the stupid security guards started motioning for me to get off the stage. I tried to motion back that the band said I could be there, but they either didn't understand or didn't care. I finally gave up, and got off the stage. Fortunately, the sound guy was really nice. He told me that I could go stand in his little booth on the side of the stage where the security people couldn't mess with me.

Next came what quite possibly was the best moment of the evening. Frank dedicated a song to my parents. What song? "I Just Wanna Do It With You." I was cracking up. My dad thought it was the greatest thing in the world. The next day he was bragging to all his friends, and now he refers to it as, "his song." Haha.

After the show was over, I went outside and talked to people for a while. When I came back inside everyone was packing up. I was taking a lot of MTX's stuff home with me to avoid any hassle at the Canadian border. After they decided what they needed to take with them, I brought my car around and we put the stuff in it. Frank, Joel, and Heather had a great time kicking an empty box around, until Frank kicked it up onto the top of the Teen Idols' van. It was quite a sight.

There were some girls outside that were showing Frank, Joel, and I all these different dance moves. Joel attempted a few of them, and came up with one of his own in the process. Across the parking lot, someone had a recorder (not like a tape recorder, the instrument) and was playing, "I Don't Need You Now." It was cool. All the fun came to an end though, when some scary stuff started happening with some other people across the parking lot. Everyone quickly got in their vans and got ready to leave.

MTX left, and the Teen Idols came back to my house with me. This was definitely a great night.
