This show made me realize just how wrong my ideas about Canada really were. I always thought that Canadians were jolly and friendly and nice! Not so! Despite running into several nasty Canadians, this was still a great show.I followed the Teen Idols to the show, and ended up getting there really early. It sort of reminded me of the last London show. I was there for a long time before the show started, and there was really nothing to do. After quite a while of sitting around, people started showing up. I stayed in the front by the merch table and talked to Paige for a long time. Then my friend PJ showed up, so I went and hung out with him for most of the show.
We watched the first band play, and they were terrible. They were just starting out, which probably had a lot to do with it, but still. It was just typical Fat Wreck Chords sounding stuff, with the obligitory ska number somewhere in the middle. Yuck.
The Teen Idols came on next, and rocked of course. During the middle Keith started talking about my dad. I just about died laughing. I don't even remember what exactly he said. He was talking about how he heard my dad bragging about having "I Just Wanna Do It With You" dedicated to him. He also said some stuff about my brother, and how he wasn't really my brother or something. I dunno. It was nuts.
I went and sat by the merch table for a while, until it was time for MTX to play. I went and got right up in front. The crowd wasn't very big, but as I soon discovered, they were really mean! By far the meanest crowd all tour.
MTX started playing, and for the first song everything was fine. But then the trouble started. There were several guys "moshing" behind me, and they kept bumping into me. It was annoying, but tolerable. I kept looking back at them, hoping that they might cool it a little. They didn't. Then I started to notice that they seemed to be hitting me specifically, rather than just accidentally hitting everyone. This sort of angered me, so I looked back at the one guy and glared at him. He made a mean face at me, and I guess I made a face back. The next thing I knew, the guy picked me up, and set me down like 10 feet away from the stage. I was SO pissed. I went after the guy, and was going to hit him, (probably not the best reaction, but hey, I was really really mad), but one of his stupid friends held me back. I finally gave up and just turned back around.
Of course the ganging up on me continued (in fact, it got worse), and I started getting really frustrated. Luckilly PJ saw what was happening, and came to defend me. He stood behind me for the rest of the set, and I got hit way less.
MTX finished their set. It was really great, despite all the aggravation with the stupid crowd. I talked to everyone briefly after the show, and then I decided to go with PJ and his friends. I said goodbye to everyone, and we left.
