Phialdelphia, PA

I was quite nervous about going to this show. Considering what happened last time (see this for details). Forget nervous, I was down right paranoid. I did take some precautions though. I didn't drive, and left my car in the safe suburb that Kelley's sister lives in. So I really had nothing to be scared of, but I couldn't help but feel weird going into the city.

Kel and I got to the show an hour or so early. Her (extremely cranky) sister dropped us off. It was a different club than the last time, which I was really happy about. The front doors were locked, so Frank told us to go around to the back. We went inside and I spotted Matt from the Teen Idols and his brother. I was so surprised! I hadn't seen him since the beginning of June, so I was really excited. I knew that his parents lived in Philly, but I thought he was still in Europe, so I wasn't expecting to see him. I talked to him for a long time, and then he went to watch the Queers sound check.

Pretty soon, the ultra mean security guards kicked everyone out. Grr! This was not the end of my problems with security either. It was extremely freezing outside, so Kel and I went across the street to eat dinner. When we came back, 20 minutes after the doors were supposed to open, everyone was still standing outside! Not fun.

Kel and I waited with Jackie for about 10 minutes. Then finally they let us in! I talked to Frank for a while. He told me why they didn't bring a merch person along, which I was really curious about since I know they hate having to sell the stuff themselves. Turns out that Paige couldn't come along, and they just couldn't find someone trustworthy enough on such short notice. I was quite disappointed that Paige didn't come along. It's not the same without her!

When the Parasites came on I went to watch. I was excited since it seems like every time I try to see them something goes wrong. The show the night before marked the third time I'd missed them. Argh! They were really great, as I expected. After they played I went to find Jym to see if Kelley and I could stand in front of the barrier (to avoid getting smashed). The ultra friendly security guard said that Kel could stand in front of the barrier for 3 songs to take pictures, but that's it. In light of that, I decided to stand on the side of the stage instead.

MTX played really great, and the kids seemed to really enjoy it. After they played I left the backstage area and went to find Kel. We watched the Queers from a distance, which turned out to be quite a wise decision. The place was packed, and Queers fans tend to not always be particularly gentle.

Afterwards I said bye to Matt and his brother and Kel and I tried to find change to call her sister's boyfriend to come pick us up. Shortly after, we had another run in with the evil security. We were just hanging out talking to people and they told us to leave. MTX came to our defense, but they said that we had to go anyway. Argh! After a bit of arguing I gave up, but I needed to get my sweatshirt. Easier said than done. I told one security guard that I needed it, and he told me to hurry up and get it. When I tried to go behind the merch table to get it, another security guard told me I wasn't allowed to go back there. As I was trying to reason with her, the first security guy yelled at me to leave again. I told him I was still trying to get my sweatshirt (at this point I was extremely frustrated and angry). He said, "That's what you told me before! Now either get it right now or get out!" I wasn't about to try and reason with these idiots any more, so I just said, "Fuck it, I'll get it tomorrow" and stormed out.

Kel and I went around back to wait for MTX to come out. We found Jym and talked to him for a while. Then he went to bring the van around front. We followed, and ran into Kelley's sister's boyfriend on the way. He said that her sister was waiting in the car, and that we needed to leave. Argh! We told him that we just needed to say goodbye to everyone. Unfortunately, her sister wasn't about to wait a whole five minutes to wait for Frank and Joel, so we had to leave without saying bye to either of them! I was pissed. I mean, it wasn't life shattering or anything, after all we were seeing them the next day, but I dunno, it left a lousy ending on the night.

We got back to her sister's house, and after getting our stuff together we left for my house. Ten hours later, we arrived home (car intact, thank goodness)!
