Due to the generosity of the Groovie Ghoulies, I was able to attend this show. I parted with the Ghoulies at the gas station near Jackie's house, and went to pick up my mom. We drove to Cambridge, and ran into really horrible traffic in MA. Once we finally got to the street, I had an impossible time finding the club. The front of club is a restaurant, so I walked by it a dozen times before I realized it was the club. After a long time of wandering up and down the same street, I finally figured it out. I went inside and found MTX, and was totally relieved to have found them.Even with all my wandering around, I still managed to get to the club a while before the doors opened. Joe Queer came for a little while, and then Frank left with him for coffee. I have a really neat picture of Joe, Frank, and Dan Panic from that show, but I can't find it at the moment. Doh. Hopefully I'll be able to put it up here soon...
At one point during the show Jym, Joel, and I were talking about J Church (my second favorite band) and Jym said, "You don't like them more than us, do you?!?!" How he could ever ask this, I don't know. Just imagine how obsessed I would have to be with J Church to like them more than MTX... Scary, eh?
I'm not sure who the opening band was. After them, the Ghoulies played, and were of course great.
While MTX were setting up, I met this really nice guy who was standing in front by me. He was telling me about his collection of TV show related records! They sounded so cool! He has one that is a Facts of Life record, and has each character singing a different sort of song. I was really envious. He also had seen Cringer live in Hawaii (Lance and Gardner from J Church's previous band). It was pretty cool.
After a little waiting, MTX started playing. It was great of course. Joel's bad joke of the night was, "Our roadie was driving on our way here today, and he got pulled over for speeding. The cop looked at his license and said, 'It says here that you're supposed to be wearing glasses,' to which our roadie replied, 'But sir, I have contacts.' The officer then said, 'Son, I don't care who you know, you still need to be wearing your glasses.'" I probably screwed that up, but you get the general idea.
I was talking to B-Face after MTX played, and he asked me where I was staying. I told him that I was just driving home. He kept telling me, "No, you're not, you'll stay at my house," and I'd say, "Really! I'll be alright!" "That's alright, you'll just stay at my house." It was pretty funny. I had to promise to email his girlfriend as soon as we got home so that they'd know I didn't die.
MTX had a lot of extra merchandise that they couldn't take into Canada, so I agreed to take care of it. That way they didn't have to go through the hassle of shipping it. I went outside to find my mom, and she was waiting in the car out front. She was pretty mad at me because it was so late, but she got over it. She came inside for a few minutes where she met Frank again. She thought he was someone else, I don't remember who though. I think she asked him if he was in the Ghoulies. Oh well.
We brought the car around behind the club to where MTX were parked. Joel and Jym came and met my mom. Joel even took his hat off when he talked to her, which she thought was impressive. She didn't approve of his tounge piercing though. We loaded the merch into my car (something like 8 boxes in all) and then I went to get directions from MTX. I said goodbye to all of them, and then my mom and I left.
That was the end of the show, but it was far from the end of the journey. It's a really long drive from Cambridge to my house (16 hours maybe?) and of course, something eventful had to happen. We stopped to get gas in New Jersey around 6 in the morning I think, and since all the gas stations there are full serve, they checked out the car. They found a big bulge on one of the tires (not a good thing!). We had a spare tire, but it was already sort of worn, and even if it wasn't, there was no way we could make it home on a spare. So we had to buy a new tire, but it wasn't as simple as that. The cheapest new tire they had cost 80 dollars, exactly how much money I had (and just a bit more then we needed for gas to get home). What to do? I opted to buy the tire (my mom wanted to try and make it home on the tire we had, but I figure it's better to be stranded than dead).
We bought the tire, and then had to find a place we could get money wired to, and call my dad to wire us money and stuff. We also had to wait a couple hours for the banks to open. It was all pretty stressful. Not having slept didn't really help either. Finally we got the money though, and we were on our way home. The rest of the trip went fine. We got home and I went right to sleep.
