Detroit, MI

By the time the Detroit show rolled around, it had been almost two weeks since I had seen them play! More than enough time for me to get excited out of my mind about it.

I went with Karl and this other kid Dave (another kid who used to be one of my best friends who now hates my guts, the body count keeps getting higher and higher!). We arrived way early and went into the club to find MTX. Jym invited the three of us out to dinner with them. I went, but Karl and Dave declined so that they could go eat with Joe Queer.

This girl Kime was interviewing them as we ate. It was actually a really interesting interview, although she never got around to printing another issue of her zine. She had Frank, Joel, and Jym all draw pictures of themselves which I thought was pretty funny. Frank's was really cute, but I'm not going to tell the story because I'm sure I'm going to screw it up and distort it into unfunniness. At the end of the interview (cuz Kime felt it her duty to try and embarrass me in front of MTX, since she knew how insanely obsessed with them I am) she said "Does anybody have any last words or anything? Rebekah, want to ask anyone to marry you?" To this day it makes me blush...(not that that's a hard thing to do).

After that we all went back to the club. Joel and I hung out outside for a little bit, and I got to meet some of the Smugglers. I remember these evil kids from my even more evil former school were standing in line. They always used to make fun of me (and still do given the opportunity) but that night they were all nice to me cuz they saw me talking to Joe. Heh...the bastards...

All three bands put on an absolutely amazing show that night, although, I must admit, I was not quite as into watching the Queers after just seeing Mr. T, but they were fantabulous none the less. MTX played lots of my requests, and it was in general a completely rockin show.

After the show Karl, Dave, and I were promptly kicked out of the club, but we got to talk to MTX more outside. Joel and one of the Smugglers were playing catch with a carton of orange juice. Oooo, and I almost forgot, Joel gave me a pair of plastic sunglasses that some kid had given him (See what happens when you give them presents? They pawn them off on someone else! j/k...) because he "wanted to give me something but didn't have anything else to give." Aww... There were lots of other amusing incidents that happened outside, but I'm having a major memory lapse at the moment.

Sadly, it was time for MTX to leave, so we all said our goodbyes. This was my last MTX show for qutie a while, because my horribly mean parents refused to drive me to Cleveland the next day. The nerve!

A few short moments my mom arrived to take us all home. I remember Karl trying to talk about Queers songs on the way home in code so that my mom wouldn't be offended, like, "Ursula's New Shoes" and stuff like that. It was pretty amusing, but maybe you had to be there. Ah well... another glorious evening of MTX worship drew to a close.
